RACE WALKERS' TEAM FOR SA's

Hi

The inclusion in the team for the SAs will not only depend on how we preformed during the year but also on the races between now and 4 Sept 2010.

The team will be announced in the week of 6 - 10 Sept 2010.

Regards

Gerard van den Raad

All entrants must qualify by completing an officially recognized race during the period of to 30 May 2010 to 6 May 2011. All entrants who completed the 2010 Comrades Marathon within the 12 hour cut-off may use their finishing time for 2011 and will be seeded according to their finishing time. Club Information (For South African Athletes Only)
Athletes will not be in possession of their 2011 licenses by the time of entry; however athletes will still have to comply with the rule that they must be licensed through an officially registered athletics club affiliated to Athletics South Africa in order to run the 2011 Comrades Marathon.

As with the new qualifying criteria, you will be able to enter for 2011 Comrades Marathon before having received your 2011 license. You will however have to submit your club name and license number to the CMA before or by the 6 May 2011.

RACE WALKING

******************************************************

Dear club chairmen, coaches and athletes,

The attached list contains the names of walkers that were identified

by the walkers sub committee as possible candidates for inclusion in the

AGN team to the South African road walking championships and inter

provincial competition planned for October in Oudshoorn.

Race distances vary from 10km to 50km. All age categories are catered

for from youth development to masters 80 plus.

We request that you inform the athletes from your clubs about our

plans, and also provide Gerard van den Raad names of athletes that might

have been overlooked, but do have the potential to perform up to standard.

The names in the list were taken from those that competed in the firs 3

league races of 2010, as well as those who represented AGN at the

various national championships events in 2010. Please also communicate to

Gerard the availability of these athletes for possible AGN representation.

Walkers are encouraged to compete in the remaining AGN league

races so that their performance can be monitored. The team will be

finalized after the 10km road walking championships at Zwartkop

on 04 September.

Regards.

Gerard van den Raad.

AGN walkers representative.

AGN ROAD RUNNING & WALKING LEAGUE SECTION

Newest LEAGUE information will be added at the top of this section, from now on -

i.e. just below here.

NEXT LEAGUE RACES

04 SEPT - SPIRIT OF FLIGHT - 10 KM
... next WALKING League Race also 10km walking Championship

18 SEPT - CSIR - 10km 21km
... next RUNNING League Race

Hi

The following clubs are presenting running / walking league races between now and the end of the year.

PMMC Spirit of Flight 4 Sept 10km WALK
CSIR CSIR 18 Sept 10 and 21 km RUN
ACRW / Phobians Capital Classic 9 Oct 10 and 21 km RUN
Maritimo Hunter's Challenge 30 Oct 10 and 21km WALK
Agapé Agapé  6 Nov 10, 21 and 32km RUN
PMMC Andrew Greyling 20 Nov 10 and 21 km WALK

I've been told by Gerhard van den Raad that for Walking league races organising club's walkers can take part in the helpers' race and do not have to do the main race itself.

The same principal applies to runners in clubs who organise League races, who can also qualify for League points in their helpers' race.

Walkers who walk in Running League races gain Running League points for their clubs (based on the running times criteria).

God Bless

Ken

Hi

2010 AGN RUNNING, SUPER & WALKING LEAGUE LOGS

RUNNING LEAGUE - CARLTON - 07 AUG 2010

A couple of comments before looking at the various divisions.

1. In the 10km race there were 3 athletes from 2 clubs (Nissan (1) and Temba (2)) who, according to the figures supplied by Agn have not bought any licences as at the end of Jun. So although these athletes earned points, no handicap calculation could be done and consequently no league points were allocated.

2. A number of years ago at an Agn RR&W commission management meeting it was decided (and here I'm quoting from memory) that any Agn athlete, taking part in a national championship on the same day as a league race, was entitled to take part in the presenting club's workers race.

As this is not always possible, I have accepted that the times of the representative athletes at the national championships could be used to calculate their league points.

The Military held their national championships (I think down in Cape Town) at the same time as the Carlton league race. A list of names and times were sent through to me. The distances ranged from 12km to 4km which seems to suggest that this was a cross country championship. Extrapolating these times however made no sense to me.

I have sent a number of emails through to Pmmc and cc Jaap Rossouw but have had no response. I assume that they are out of office or the email has not got through to them, so I have made a unilateral decision which I hope doesn't bounce back at me.

I went into Derrick Chamberlain's personal 'raceresults' and deleted 3 of the names sent to me as they had not run a race at all in 2010 ... (2 of them had never run a race at all according to 'raceresults').

For the other 13 athletes on the list I looked at their 2010 league record and allocated their points based on that. I feel that I can defend this decision of mine based on the principle of the Agn RR&W directive mentioned above.

Right, having got that off my chest, let's look at the various leagues.

RUNNING LEAGUE DIV 1

It's a 2 horse race at the top with Overkruin only 1 point ahead of Pmmc in 2nd position. At the other end of the Div 1 log it looks as though any 2 of 4 clubs could find themselves in Div 2 next year viz. Phobians (22pts), Exxaro (26pts), Magnolia (27pts) and Enduro (27pts)

RUNNING LEAGUE DIV 2

Another 2 horse race with Mazda (91pts) and Bmw (88pts) well clear of 3rd placed Transnet (74pts). Bottom of Div 2 is Varsity Sports. It seems as though Varsity Sports no longer exists as a club as so far they haven't bought any licences this year. Either Faranani (22.5pts) or Tuks Alumni (26.5pts) will more than likely make the drop down to Div 3 next year.

RUNNING LEAGUE DIV 3

This time it's a 3 horse race between Fsb (191pts), Corr Serv (188.5pts) and Telkom (184pts) to see who goes up to Div 2 next year. New kids on the block, Love Running scored maximum points at this Carlton league race.

RUNNING SUPER LEAGUE

MALE SUPER LEAGUE

From a 3-way tie at the end of the previous league race, Pmmc (even without their athletes taking part in the Military Championships) have come out on top with Nedbank 1 point behind and New Balance a further 2 points behind Nedbank.

FEMALE SUPER LEAGUE

This time it was Irene who came from a 2-way tie with Nedbank to take a 2 point lead at the top of the Female Super league, while both are well clear of 3rd place New Balance, 12 points behind Nedbank.

WALKING LEAGUE

Irene appear to be well set at the top of the walking league, 5.5pts ahead of RWFL and 15pts ahead of Alpha Centurion.

Fluit, fluit my storie is uit.

God Bless

Ken

and the season is building up to a great climax. Our provincial championships on Saturday delivered some of the most exciting races ever seen in this province and it is evident that we have a strong team going into the nationals.

The selectors will convene this week and we will announce the team early next week after approval of the Athletics Gauteng North board.

I would like to thank every one of the 1380 athletes who participated and the people who helped to make the day special, especially our sponsors, Run-A-Way Sport, New Balance, The City of Tshwane and the TUT.

I am sure you found the new track challenging as we found some challenges to iron out before 11 September 2010. I would appreciate it if you could forward me your suggestions to gobeya@telkom.co.za.

Our final secondary schools event which took place at Prestige College in Hammanskraal on Wednesday attracted 780 participants.

You can find results for previous events at http://www.xc.run4life.co.za/index.php
